Pony Club Activities
Dressage:
The object of Dressage is the harmonious development of the physique
and ability of the horse. As a result it makes the horse calm, supple,
loose, and flexible but also confident, attentive and keen thus
achieving perfect understanding with his rider.
Everything But The Horse (EBTH):
EBTH introduces new Pony Clubbers to the requirements of USPC rally.
In this unmounted contest, members are tested on Horse Management
and presentation. EBTH is designed to better prepare young memebers
for future Pony Club competitions.
Eventing:
Eventing embodies the core activity of Pony Club--that of three
riding disciplines (Dressage, Cross Country, Show Jumping) and horse
management, providing members with a broad equestrian base needed
to enjoy any horse activity throughout their lives in a safe and
complete manner.
Games:
The United States Pony Clubs' Games Program is intended to provide
reinforcement of the riding skills in a more relaxed environment
than the formal lesson in equitation. Through the use of relay races
requiring a multitude of skills (from bending, to dunking, to vaulting),
games teach a pony to become more obedient and responsive, as well
as teaching cooperation through the medium of team play and team
discipline.
Show Jumping:
A Show Jumping competition is one in which teams of horses and riders
are tested under various conditions over courses of obstacles. Each
riding test is intended to demonstrate the horse's freedom, energy,
training and obedience, as well as the rider's horsemanship.
Tetrathalon:
Tetrathalon is a sport requiring skill and physical endurance. It
includes four events: riding a mount over a course of obstacles,
shooting an air pistol, running cross country, and swimming.
Quiz: Quiz
is a non-riding team competition where Pony Club members show their
knowledge and skills in 1) the Standards of Proficiency and topics
related to the standards of proficiency through their rating level,
2) Rally competition rules, 3) Horse sports including Foxhunting,
Polocross, and 4) Safety.
